I read that the best facing for a front door is North. If I live in Canada and my fron t door faces the North, the sun will be shining at my back. Is that auspiucious?

There is no such feng shui formula as to the best facing direction for a front door.

Hi tkm,
I am trying to figure out your house layout but was confused. Let me see whether this what you meant.
i have a room at first floor which the main door is facing the staircase which go to second floor ( i am having 21/2 storey house).
If maindoor is facing the staircase going to the next floor, this is not good for feng shui as the in-coming qi does not flow through the first floor. It goes straight to the next floor.
In this room there is a bathroom door facing the main door (in the room) as well
This is also not good layout. The qi goes straight and gets trap in the bathroom. Try keeping the bathroom door close always.

actually the plan is like below. the washroom door and bedroom door is facing each other. and the bedroom door is facing the staircase to second floor. Read your comment,i may always close the washroom door, how about the bedroom door, will it hurt the person stay in this room ? pls advise. washroom |---\------ |(wall with door(symbol\)) |bedroom | | | |--\--------|(wall with door(symbol\)))
===== (staircase to second floor - facing the room's door)

"West house is fortunate for west people & East house is fortunate for east people." This is a wrong concept in 8-mansions feng shui.
Whether a person is East or West group is because of a person's birth year. The birth of a person created each individual as a "Tai Ji" from "Wu Ji". Before birth, an individual is considered "Wu Ji". His universe does not exist. After birth, as a "Tai Ji", an individual has fortunate and unfortunate direction. This has nothing to do with the house he or she lives in.
A house has it own "Tai Ji" which is created when the house is built. The house has its own fortunate and unfortunate location. Whether a person belongs to East or West group, a good house is a good house for all.
Don't mix a person's "Tai Ji" with that of a house.

I've heard that a house facing NE faces the "mouth of the devil" and that the people living there will never have good fortune. I can't find this anywhere and based on Amy's comment, I would assume there is not one massive directive that NE facing is all bad. The house was built in 1984 or 1985.

I've heard that a house facing south is the best facing direction. In addition to the myth of having "green tiger on the left" and "white tiger at the right". . True??

Not really that South facing house is best. It all depends on the surrounding landforms as well. South in China is particularly good since there are always North winds which is always bad.
If you stay in Beijing for 1 year you will understand what i mean.
the 4 celestrial animal is not a myth. it is a representation of landforms which is important for a house to benefit from good Qi.
Classical feng shui deals with many aspect of landforms and the ability to receive good Qi to benefit mankind. It is not about putting a white tiger on your right or green dragon on your left working table...just to illustrate some common misunderstanding about Classical Feng Shui.
